Target audiences

There are many aspects of the rock genre which portrays to the audience of the obvious genre which the bands are associating with.

Costume & make-up

This is stereotypical of the rock genre due to his costume of the skull on the right side of his shirt. The skull symbolises the hard and unnerving style of the music and offers a form of escapism for the fans that they can relate too, so they can get away from there horrid life's and just listen to some music which relates directly to their life's, this is what rock music is all about. The colour black also symbolises the mood of which the rock genre creates in the mind of its target audiences. The harmful warning signs portrays the rock genre as dangerous and head banging to listen to. There isn't much make-up apart from dark, black eye-liner around the eyes to reflect a Gothic look which rock music is kind of similar to the Gothic style. The messy hair style is

Is this possible? This is possible as you could easily walk to the local clothes store and buy a black shirt and get some skull stickers.

Props

The genre of this bands music is clearly shown as rock genre. This is simply because the guitar is an electric guitar which is a symbol of any of the different kinds of rock. But this specific guitar, the ESP LTD Viper-300FM, is specifically designed for a sound which would only be associated to rock, a sound which makes the difference between rock and indie or pop or D&B. Also the design of the guitar is an all over skull rhythm design which is stereotypical of the rock genre.

Is this possible? This is possible as there are many ways to get hold of the same type of guitar without the decals in shops down Denmark Street, and then you could get your own rock type of decals to put onto your guitar.

Lighting

There is not a specific set of lighting which can be used for rock bands. This lighting however is from a live Pink Floyd concert stereotypes the rock genre as the random flashing lights in the still image indicates the lights are moving and switching quickly, which reflects rock music.

Is it possible? It could be done, but money limits what can actually be done regarding the stage and lighting.

What I Have Learnt So Far

Preliminary Task

I'm working on a project to design a magazine aimed at 6th form students in the school of City of London Academy. The key requirements are to take a photograph of a student, medium close up shot. Also, I need to have appropriately laid out typography and masthead. All this needs to be done by the 14th December with the research and planning by the 26th of October. The production by the 23rd November. I also need to create a rough contents page.

Name: Jack Jackson Year: 12

1. Do you read magazines?

Yes.

2. What genre of magazine do you read?

I am mainly interested in marvel comics, superhero magazines or in general cartoon type comics. I may also read some football magazines.

3. What do you read about?

I read about things that suit my interest, such as non-fiction books, cartoons and sports.

4. What would you like to see in a magazine aimed at 6th form students?

I would like to see things which can improve my studies and sometimes things which interest me like football talk for the 6th form football team.

5. How long would you spend reading the magazine?

I would normally spend 5 to 15 minutes reading a magazine.

6. Would you like to receive rewards for competitions between magazine issues? Such as ‘Best Swag of The week’ or ‘Best Sporty Student of the Week’?

Yes. I think that would make the magazine more interesting.

7. How much would you roughly spend buying a magazine?

The maximum I would go to is £5.

8. Would you be interested in a sports section in the 6th form magazine?

Yes.

Analysing the answers I have received. It seems like this person and other people prefer to only read a magazine which interests them for no longer than 20 minutes and will only spend no more than £5 buying the magazine. This person and a few others are interested in having a sports section in the magazine. Everyone has feedback that they would like the idea of awards in the magazine as most say it would make the magazine more interesting to read and more worth buying. Most of the teenagers are interested in non-fiction books such as Harry Potter which gives me some sort of idea to what to include, also teenagers would like a section in the magazine which will help them in their studies and help them have a career plan/path to move on in their life to further education or getting a job from when they finish 6th form. This has been a success in getting feedback and I am grateful for it, it has given me lots of ideas to what to include in the articles for my magazine.

Attack The Block Poster

Strengths and Weaknesses

I think my strong pointin media is creating and filming for short films, trailers, opening credits or in general anything that includes filming for something. The reason I think this is because I know most camera angles which are included in films like the low angle shot, close up shot, establishing shot etc. I enjoy working, filming and taking pictures for media purposes, I find it fun to do and you get to work with friends to create something which is fun to watch. Mostley comedy.

My weakness I think in Media is analysing and annotating magazines as I don't really know to much about all the things which make up a good magazine, nor do I know what to annotate and what the meanings are. The only thing I know about thatare the camera angles are and why they are used. I am aware of some of the colours which are purposely used. I aim to fix this and get better knowledge on how to annotate magazine and websites.
